What is an ARPG?
ARPG stands for 'Art Roleplaying Game'!
Ancient Wings is a game where players obtain "eggs" they then need to hatch and raise by completing activities in the game; earning rewards along the way! The goal is to raise your avian to adulthood and get them to the breeding stage of their life so they may continue the species survival with the next generation! Of course, there are many other ways to play the game, and as new content is added there will be more gameplay styles for players to choose from! |
___
Is Ancient Wings free to play?
Yes!
Ancient Wings is completely free to join and participate in! Any in-game items that can be bought for irl currency are also available for purchase with feathers, our in-game currency that you can earn by simply completing certain activities. |
___
Are avians a closed species?
Yes, avians are a closed species intended for use within the Ancient Wings game!
You may not create avian characters without the use of in-game items such as eggs (genos) or semicustom slots. |
___
If I join the game, do I have to participate?
No!
If, at any point, you decide you do not wish to actively participate in the game- you do not have to! Players will never be penalized for their activity level, so how you interact with the game is entirely up to you! |
___
Do I have to draw in order to participate in the game?
No!
Although this is an art roleplaying game, it is not specifically centered around visual media! You may participate in this game with drawings, paintings, sculptures, dioramas, animations, poems, short stories, comics, or entire novels if you so choose! It's also worth noting here that Ancient Wings welcomes players of all skill levels, too! Everyone from beginners to seasoned professionals are able to participate in this game. |
___
Is it mandatory for players to join the discord server?
No!
Players are not obligated to join the discord server if they do not want to! However, we encourage folks to check it out, as it is where most of the community hangs out, shares art and stories, connects with game mods, and keeps up with what's going on in the game! |
___
Is there a limit on how many avians I can have?
No!
You may obtain as many avians as you like, so long as you have your inventory set up! We understand that some players want to join the game simply to collect characters, and that's okay! There are no limits to how many avians any one player may own at a time. |
___
Can I use my avians outside of the group/game?
Yes!
If you would like to come up with your own stories for your avians, use them within another setting, or have them interact with other characters; this is absolutely welcome! With that being said, your avians will always need to be depicted in the canonical setting for certain activities, such as prompts or events! |
___
Can I turn characters from outside of the game into avians?
Yes!
If you would like to avian-ify one of your personal characters, or a character that you like; such as one from your favorite movie or video game, you are allowed to do so- provided you have the appropriate egg or semicustom slot to accommodate the character's creation. Be aware that if you are creating an avian that is based off of a copyrighted character, other people will also be allowed to use that same character as inspiration for their own avians, if they like. |
___
Is there a limit to how many event entries or prompts I may submit?
For certain events, there may be a limit to how many entries you may submit; but as of now, there are no limits to the number of times you may submit prompt submissions per day/week/month!
Of course, this may be subject to change! As the game develops and the community grows, some things may need to be adjusted, so be sure to check out the activity page for information on submission limits! |
___
Is there a limit to how much I can buy from official sales?
Currently, there are no limits to the number of items you can purchase from a single sale!
Again, this may be subject to change. Sales are not always frequent, and while we want to make sure that everyone has a chance to grab the items they want, we also don't want to overwhelm the community with large, frequent sales. |
___
What is the difference between the Nesting Grounds and Random Rolls?
The Nesting Grounds are intended to be a place for players to obtain "starter avians" for themselves. The eggs generated here can only be one of the four psittacine subspecies, have up to three markings, and have a very low chance of passing hidden mutations- with no possibility for active ones. With that being said, these eggs do not come with any lineage, which means they can be bred to any avian that is not related to them, directly!
Random Rolls have the ability to be generated as any currently available subspecies from any group, can have up to five marks, and may roll with both hidden and/or active mutations; however, these eggs always come with pre-assigned lineage, so they will always be related to two of the community owned starters. It's also worth mentioning that players are able to claim one free egg from the Nesting Grounds every year, whereas Random Rolls require the use of an in-game item to claim! |
___
I submitted _____, _____ days ago, and it hasn't been seen yet, what happened?
If you have submitted something to the game, and wish to know the status of your submission- be it a prompt or event submission, a design approval request, or anything else; it's recommended that you join the community discord server, as this is where we keep players up to speed with what we (the game mods) are working on.
It's also here where you can easily contact a game mod to ask about your submissions; though we can't stress enough that we are just a couple of humans doing human things outside of the game- so please do not frequently pester us to handle your requests! If you are worried that your request has been skipped, you may contact a game mod and we can check it out! There are a number of reasons a request may not go through- sometimes the submission or request itself may not have shown up on our end. Sometimes there is something preventing us from accepting a submission or request. Again, it's advised for players to be in the discord with us so we have an easier way to communicate! |
